abc Gent

With pupils from an elementary school in Ghent, I made an alphabet in which:

alpro stands for ‘a’
bifi for ‘b’
coca cola for c
dan’up for d
evian for e
and so forth.

Then I used it to write the sentence that I had to learn in Old Dutch when I was the same age as the children in the class in ghent with whom I made the alphabet:
Hebban olla vogala nestas hagunnan hinase hic enda thu wat unbidan wir nu.
(‘All birds have started making nests, except me and you; what are we waiting for?’)

The abc was on view in the Maria Goretti Church, not far from Vogelenzangpark 17bis, and was also created in the context of TRACK festival, Gent from 12 May till 16 September 2012
